Girls ADD

The AAU Girl's Basketball National Committee has adopted new age guidelines at the AAU National Convention held in October of 2007.

We believe that AAU will be going to a grade based approach in the future; therefore we have adopted new guidelines that in addition to the AAU age divisions, includes a grade component as well.

These AAU changes will affect a great number of players and we have put a great deal of thought into how the Maryland Flames would handle these changes.

·         Players in High School are strongly encouraged to play in their own grade division even if they are too young by the new AAU age division standards, but may play in their age appropriate division under the new ADD.

·         Players who are pre-High School, 8th grade and below will be encouraged to play in their own grade division, but may play in their age appropriate division instead of the grade division in accordance with the new ADD.

·         The Maryland Flames policy is a combination of applying the ADD or Grade, giving families an option.  While we strongly recommend playing in their grade division this new Maryland Flames policy allows for some flexibility.

·         It is still a Maryland Flames policy to not let a player "play up".  A player must play in the appropriate ADD for age or grade division from the table below.

·         EXCEPTIONS:  Any girls affected by this change that registered and played with the Maryland Flames in 2007 may choose to remain with that team.
